Coastal Kennels is located in the heart of Eastern North Carolina on six beautiful acres. Our operation is a mother-daughter combination (Tammy Alden & Polly Brolin) and we have been breeding quality companions and show prospects for many years. We pride ourselves in producing puppies with the good looks and the sound temperaments that make them highly competitive in both the conformation and obedience rings, as well as a joy to be around.
We started breeding Shetland Sheepdogs in the early 1980's and are proud of our accomplishments thus far. Not only is each dog at Coastal a beloved family companion, but we have bred many Specialty Best in Show, Specialty winning and ASSA class winning dogs over the years, as well as the 2006 ASSA RWD (BISS GCh Coastal Wintercreek Storm Warning), and the 2009 ASSA Futurity Runner Up (Ch Whisperwind Coastal Shared Dreams). Our dogs are also involved in such activities as agility, rally, obedience, search and rescue, therapy, and even free style dance!! Our motto has always been and always will be, "Our dogs need to be easy to look at and easy to live with." We take this very seriously. Add that to how careful we are about breeding healthy dogs and puppies, and you have a win/win combination!!! Brains and beauty is our ultimate goal!! And, a sweet face is also a must!!
Our breeding program at Coastal is kept small, and this is no accident. Our goal is to keep our numbers at a comfortable level, as our dogs are all house dogs, and very
much a part of our daily lives and activities.
Even though our first Champion was a Tri color, Ch Kankun's New Kid On The Block, we quickly realized our first love, the one that made us "weak in the knees" was sables. So, we made adjustments, incorporating the stunning dogs of Jade Mist into our breeding program. This gave us the sweet faces we wanted, and we kept the good movement as well. It worked out beautifully, and we will always be grateful to Carol Howell of Jade Mist for trusting us with her best!
Although Mom and I are thrilled with "the look" we have established over the years at Coastal, we are always striving to improve. Incorporating new dogs into our program is not a snap decision. We research pedigrees for quality as well as good health, and of course, that sweet expression and soundness we have come to enjoy.
Our dreams and goals keep us moving forward. We enjoy what we do, and feel blessed and humbled to be a part of this wonderful sport! We will always be excited
over each litter born at Coastal, and win or lose, we will always enjoy each and every dog show! -
